Brown Challenges Opponent to Accept Common Sense Reforms to Texas Railroad Commission
FORT WORTH, TX.– Steve Brown, Democratic nominee for Railroad Commissioner, is calling on his opponent, Ryan Sitton, to join him in supporting five common sense reforms to the Railroad Commission. These reforms will help transform the Commission into the advocacy agency it was created to be. Regulatory agencies should be beyond reproach, completely transparent and fair to everyone.
Steve Brown released the following statement: “My opponent, Ryan Sitton, has set a dangerous precedent of ignoring the questions and concerns of everyday Texans. He’s been silent on the issues facing our state since the run off election nearly two months ago. Texans across the state agree that the way the Railroad Commission currently works doesn’t work for them and they are ready for a change. “Currently, the Railroad Commission is heavily influenced by the industry they are meant to regulate. As a result, the voices of Texas taxpayers are buried in an avalanche of campaign cash. The public has lost trust in the fairness of the regulatory process. These reforms are simply just the right thing to do in the public interest and to ensure that we achieve more appropriate balance at the Commission.
“Reforming the Commission so that it works better for all Texas taxpayers is a bipartisan issue. I hope Ryan agrees with me that these reforms are necessary and that money should not buy privilege with the Commission. He can choose to be part of the solution or part of the problem.”
